His wife is Persephone, daughter of Demeter and the goddess of fertility, whom Hades abducted in order to marry. This story is a fundamental part of the myth of Hades and Persephone and is linked to the seasons, as Persephone’s separation from her mother tells of the coming of winter when Persephone is with Hades in Hades and the return of spring when she is with her mother Demeter.
